Social web applications? Anyone can do it.

Posted on 29 October, 2009 at 8:43pm with no comments

Advertising Age Digital just posted about the announcement of the Forrester Groundswell Awards. They have awarded successful and groundbreaking social web apps. The list of entries and winners is great. And according to Josh Bernoff the most important lesson to learn is this: anyone can do it.

Inspire Commerce – a B Corporation for credit card processing

Posted on 23 July, 2009 at 4:34pm with no comments

Just found out today that my good friend Casey Capshaw is working on a new project called Inspire Commerce. It’s a Merchant Service Provider service with a freaking twist… they give 10% of their profits to charity.

These guys are not only good at what they do and have amazing rates but they’re a B Corporation. That means that they’re clean, green and all about social improvements.

So if you need to process credit cards online, there are the friendliest and coolest people you can hook up with.

Google Chrome OS – What people want according to Google

Posted on 9 July, 2009 at 11:05am with 2 comments

The post where Google announced the launching of their new Operating System has a brief description of what people want from their computers. It’s a good summary of the tough demands people have on machines today:

People want to get to their email instantly, without wasting time waiting for their computers to boot and browsers to start up. They want their computers to always run as fast as when they first bought them. They want their data to be accessible to them wherever they are and not have to worry about losing their computer or forgetting to back up files. Even more importantly, they don’t want to spend hours configuring their computers to work with every new piece of hardware, or have to worry about constant software updates.

Firefox 3.5 is out

Posted on 30 June, 2009 at 11:37am with no comments

I’ve been using Safari 4 since it was released and I’m loving it. But if Firefox 3.5 is really as fast and as good as they say I’ll probably switch back.

Congrats to the Mozilla Foundation for this update, some of the features are amazing:

  • HTML5 <video> and <audio> tag support
  • Private browsing mode
  • New technologies: Downloadable fonts, CSS media queries, new transformations and properties, JavaScript query selectors, HTML5 local storage and offline application storage, <canvas> text, ICC profiles, and SVG transforms

I mean it sounds pretty good. http://getfirefox.com
